I love Grumpy Cat. He is always the same. I wish my mood swings were as still as that! Seriously though, I want to talk to those folks out there who are grinding their teeth through their smiles. Christmas can be a tough time for anyone. A Lot of times we look around the room only to find that many of our best friends and close family are gone. Many times we are faced with death just before or even during the Christmas season. The gifts for our loved ones are still wrapped and under the tree, but they will never be opened.
The pain that is ripped out of our chests every stinking time, "I'll be home for Christmas" is played is outrageous and often times unbearable. I think that half of the time, song writers are just sadistic little fucks that know exactly what they are doing when they write those crappy lyrics down! Just tugging on the heart strings...
"I'll be home for Christmas.
You can count on me.
Please have snow
and mistletoe
and presents under the tree.
Christmas eve will find me
where the love light gleams
I'll be home for Christmas...
If only in my dreams!
I was surprised to find out that suicide rates are not higher during Christmas...
People are most likely to commit suicide around Christmas time. False. Contrary to popular belief, the suicide rate peaks in the springtime, not the wintertime. This is probably because the rebirth that marks springtime accentuates feelings of hopelessness in those already suffering with it. In contrast, around Christmas time most people with suicidal thoughts are offered some degree of protection by the proximity of their relatives and, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, the prospect of 'things getting better from here'.
I can say that I have had some rough times around the Christmas season, but things have always seemed to get better. I believe that a lot of relief actually comes from thinking about others before thinking about myself. I love going out and shopping for my family and friends. I love the anticipation of giving the gifts to them and hoping that they will be pleased. Even during times when our finances were in the bottom of the dump, extra money or great deals would find there way into our lives.
Christmas itself is about the greatest gift that has ever been given. It is one thing to give someone your shirt when they are cold or let them borrow your car if they need to go somewhere. A good friend might even take a punch in a bar fight for his buddy. But it takes an immense amount of Love to actually give up your life for your friend.
This is a picture of "Old Sparky." It is in the Texas State Prison Museum now. 356 men sat down in this chair alive but were taken out dead! Let's say that your best friend got caught up in some crazy shit and got arrested and convicted of a double homicide. The judge brought in the sentence and it is the death penalty. Now this is your best friend from the time you were babies. Would you sit down in "Old Sparky" in his place? What if it was your mother or father? Would you ride the lightning instead of them? That's a hard question to say yes to. But guess what...
That is exactly what our Father in Heaven did for us.
I know, I know, Y'all are saying, "what the hell is he talking about? This isn't Easter!" You're right. It's Christmas.
What Christmas really is about is the fact that the Creator of the universe and everything that is in it, came down from heaven in the form of a human baby. He was carried in the womb of a virgin teenager. The Almighty Lord, who is Omnipresent (Meaning everywhere at once), confined himself to a human body and the womb of a child. He was born into poverty in the lowliest of places (a crap filled stable) and placed in a manger. All of this, knowing that one day His hands and feet would be nailed to a cross to be our substitute for sin and a sentence of the death penalty.
We have all been judged and the verdict is in. "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." We are condemned to an eternal death. We got the death sentence. But there is time for an appeal!!! Remember that friend I was talking about earlier? Well, Jesus is the One who came to take your place on "Old Sparky," Gallows, Guillotine and cross. He died so that we may live!
Those who have gone before us, those who understood this message and accepted their last minute appeal... they are celebrating Christmas in Heaven with God. We can find comfort in that. For those who are left behind... we have a choice to make. We can dwell on the loss and the failures of the past or we can set our eyes on the future and the true meaning of Christmas... It is a wonderful life! It is, because, He loves us so!
When the nights are lonely and the pain seems like it is more than you can bear, there is One who is always with you to bring you comfort. He is the One who was there in the beginning. He is the One who will always be. He is the One that has known you from the beginning, because He formed you with His own Holy Hands. He is the One who took a savage beating in your place. He is the One that they spit on and cursed at. He is the One who took the nails in His hands and feet and took a spear in His side. He is the baby in the manger and He is the Victorious Risen Lord who emerged from the tomb after three days! He is the friend that is the best friend that you will ever have.
He has a gift for you and it is wrapped in an unending Love. Why don't you unwrap it now, or will you wait till Christmas morning? Do it now! Let's see what it is? Oh Thank you Lord Jesus! It is the gift of Eternal Life with God! There is no greater gift than that! Will you accept it and watch your heart be healed?
Say this with me...
Lord Jesus I accept your Christmas gift. I believe that you are my Lord and the Son of God! I believe that you were raised from the dead and that you took my punishment for me.
Lord let me feel you in my heart and know that I am saved for eternity.
Thank you for loving me, even though I am a sinner.
I give my life over to you. That is my Christmas present to you!
If you said this prayer with me, there is nothing and no one that can ever take this away from you. This ain't no white elephant party (I always thought those sucked too!).
Please leave a message in the comments section if you accepted the gift, especially for the first time.
We love you guys. Keep coming back and I'll keep telling it like it is!
G.O.Y.A.,
Merry Christmas,
The Fu King Preacher
